Wax palm route in Colombia: landscapes that go beyond the Cocora Valley

Explore the Colombian Andes through wax palm forests, rural communities and natural destinations that preserve one of the country's most important symbols.

The Quindío wax palm, whose scientific name is Ceroxylon quindiuense The Andean palm (Centro de la Palma) has been the national tree and a patriotic symbol of Colombia since 1985. This species is part of the Andean ecosystems and plays an important role as a refuge and food source for various species of wildlife, including the yellow-eared parrot. Its felling is prohibited, and its conservation is of national interest.

Although the Cocora Valley is the most recognized destination to view it, Colombia has other extraordinary landscapes where it is possible to discover forests and concentrations of wax palms in rural, mountainous and less crowded environments.
